Important Information

Avoid using tramadol if you have recently taken sedatives, alcohol, narcotic medications or tranquilizers. Tramadol is known to slow down or completely stop breathing. This mostly happens when starting out on the dose or when the dose is changed.

Tramadol can cause a serious allergic reaction to some users. In case of an allergic reaction, stop using the drug and seek emergency medical assistance. Among the signs of an allergic reaction are swollen lips, face, or tongue, difficulty breathing and hives.

This medication is only meant to be taken by the person to who it is prescribed. Do not share this medication with anyone or take another person’s medication, even if you are suffering from the same condition.

Tramadol is known to cause seizures in certain users. The risk of seizures is especially high in people with a history of head injury or seizures.

Before taking Tramadol

Before using Tramadol, ensure you inform your doctor of certain conditions you may have, including a blockage of the intestines or stomach, breathing problems, severe asthma, history of alcohol or drug addiction, history of epilepsy, head injury or any other seizure disorder and a metabolic disorder.

Tramadol is known to interact with certain medications to cause a condition known as serotonin syndrome. This condition is very serious. Inform your doctor if you are taking any medication for serious infections, migraine headaches, Parkinson’s disease, mental illness and depression.

Tramadol may be habit forming. It should therefore be used only by the person it is prescribed to. There is also a great risk of breathing problems in older adults or severely ill users.

How to take Tramadol

Tramadol should only be taken as prescribed by the doctor. The dose should not be adjusted without first consulting your doctor. Do not take a larger dose than prescribed or prolong the treatment for longer than prescribed.

When taking Tramadol, swallow the pill whole. Do not crush, break or chew the extended release tablet. Doing so could expose you to a potentially fatal dose of the drug. Do not stop the treatment using Tramadol suddenly. This may result in unwanted withdrawal symptoms. Also, if your condition worsens while taking Tramadol, consult your doctor.
